Michael Field Sensei and Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama

 

Soke Morihiro Saito Sensei spent more time with the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba O’Sensei, than any other student. He spent 23 years with the founder in Iwama Japan and is the technical heir of Aikido.

 

After O’Sensei’s death in 1969, Saito Sensei became the keeper of the Aiki Shrine and continued as the chief instructor in the founder’s own dojo. Saito Sensei is the headmaster of Iwama Ryu Aikido worldwide.

 

Michael Field Sensei, headmaster of Iwama Ryu Aikido Australia, holds a 5th dan in Aikido Iwama Ryu and a 4th dan in Aikido Bukiwaza. He began studying Aikido in Iwama as an uchi deshi to Morihrio Saito Sensei and has been teaching Iwama Ryu Aikido in Melbourne since 1983.

 

 

 

A student to Michael Field Sensei, Michael Farrugia Sensei began studying Aikido in Fitzroy, one of Melbourne’s inner suburbs, in March 1993. He began instructing in Melbourne in June 1999 as a 1st dan and has participated in seminars taught by Morihiro Saito Sensei, Ulf Evenas Sensei, Hitohiro Saito Sensei, Hiroki Nemoto Sensei and Sabaro Takayasu Sensei.

 

Awarded his 4th dan in June 2008, Michael also holds a 5th dan in Aiki sword and staff. He opened Kihon Aikido in Warradale SA in December 2003 and in Mt Martha Vic in December 2008.
